New Sponsorship for Wales Open
Celtic Manor Resort announces three-year sponsorship deal with the International Sports Promotion Society for its flagship European Tour competition, the ISPS Handa Wales Open.
The ISBS is a supporter of the International Blind Golf Association and hopes to use its association with the Wales Open to raise the profile of blind and disabled golf.
The 2012 ISPS Handa Wales Open will take place at Celtic Manor Resort between 31 May and 3 June. Winners of previous competitions have included greats of the game such as Ian Poulter, Miguel Angel Jimenéz, Robert Karlsson and Graeme McDowell. The 2012 Open will be the ISBS’s first involvement in a European Tour event.
Speaking at the announcement of the deal, Europe’s 2010 Ryder Cup vice-captain Paul McGinley said: ‘It is always a personal pleasure to return to Celtic Manor, the scene of some of my happiest memories in golf and I am very happy to be here to welcome ISPS as title sponsor of the ISPS Handa Wales Open. On behalf of European Tour players, we look forward to working with them and supporting them in raising the profile of blind and disabled golf.’
The competition has a prize fund of £1.8 million and will be played on the Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor, scene of Europe’s famous victory in 2010.
‘It is fantastic news that we are now able to secure the future of the tournament and raise its profile to an even higher level with this ground-breaking three-year partnership,’ said Celtic Manor Resort chief executive Dylan Matthews. ‘It also gives us great pleasure to work with an organisation that does such valuable work in taking golf to new audiences, particularly increasing participation in blind and disabled golf across the world.’
